Workout: Best Running Tips for Beginners

New runner or just decided to start running to improve your fitness: here are some running tips we’d have liked to know when we’d just started!

It seems like running is the new thing. You don’t need much: a pair of running sneakers, put one foot in front of the other and here you go, right? Well, it’s kind of that … But not really. If you’re new in the running game: read this, then you’ll be ready to become the runner you always wanted to be.

Start Slow

If all you can run is a half mile, quarter mile or even a few hundred feet, THAT’S OK. Start slow. Going too hard, at the beginning, will only make you break (mentally & physically). Commit yourself to a running routine, add a little more distance at a time and in no time you’ll be up to a 5K or more

Start With a Good Pair of Running Sneakers

You can find great advice on the best running shoes online. But for us, the best solution is still to go to a running store and chat with their experts (at the end of the lockdown, of course!). They’ll help you get a pair of sneakers that are right for you. Be warned: good sneakers are fairly expensive but they will save you from injuries in the long run.

Don’t Run Too Often

When you get too excited about something, you easily go hard! Big mistake my friend. Most experts recommend running three to four days a week (MAX!). If you run everyday, your body will have no time to recover and get stronger!

Chug That Water

That’s not a surprise: running, especially in hot weather, can dehydrate you. To avoid dehydration, be sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after your run. Being even slightly dehydrated can drastically impact your run and make it far more difficult.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Other Runners

If you’re a new runner, remember that getting good at anything takes time and practice. Don’t compare yourself to others, you do you and that’s all you need. Compete with yourself, not others.

Now lace up your running sneakers, get in a positive mindset and let’s get the job done.
